Community is a powerful thing

Some of the greatest technological achievements have only been possible because groups of talented individuals band together to make something awesome. Not necessarily because they wanted to make a ton of money, but because they wanted something that did not yet exist and chose to create, rather than just settle. Open source is a truly powerful storm that has given rise to some of the best software on the market, including the operating system that powers nearly the entire internet (Linux).

This mindset applies to more than just good software. Building and engaging with community, whether it be family, friends, church, scrum teams, etc…community is a powerful force that both enables and enlivens its members. Humans need community. We need people to support us, and help us grow as individuals. And, people we can support and encourage ourselves.

Here are some awesome open source tools that I have been checking out recently. Hopefully there is something here that will be useful to you as well!

  • opencode - An open-source AI coding agent designed to help with development work and code exploration, usable with various AI models. opencode is gaining traction fast, with ~77k stars and climbing fast!
  • Wedding website - A beautiful, feature-rich, and device-friendly wedding website template (including RSVP’s) that can be hosted for free.
  • delta - A beautiful viewer for git and diff output, making it much easier to see changes in your code.
  • ripgrep - A blazingly fast alternative to grep that respects your .gitignore and skips binary files by default.

I hope you find these as cool as I do. Keep building, keep sharing, and keep learning!
